About Department of Coffee

The full name for these guys is the catchy Department of Coffee and Social Affairs. The first location was on Leather Lane and they now have a small, but ever-growing network of coffee shops around London, and I would frequently visit the one in Soho as I worked a nearby. They have now grown outside of London with locations in Manchester and Bristol, and have also expanded into the US with a location in Chicago.

Department of Coffee balances precision with accessibility across a focused range that favours dark chocolate and dried fruit notes alongside subtle citrus undertones. Their roasts sit comfortably in the full-bodied spectrum—smooth rather than sharp—making them approachable for everyday drinking whilst offering enough complexity for those seeking a little more character. This is straightforward, confident coffee that knows what it does well.
