Vietnam coffee in London

8 speciality roasts from 3 London roasters use Vietnam beans.

Vietnam is one of the world's largest coffee producers, though its speciality sector remains relatively modest compared to its overall output. The country grows predominantly Robusta, particularly in the Central Highlands regions of Dak Lak, Lam Dong and Gia Lai, typically at altitudes between 500 and 1,500 metres. The cup character of Vietnamese Robusta tends toward heavy body, low acidity, and notes of dark chocolate, earth and rubber, with higher caffeine levels than Arabica. It is often used as a base component in espresso blends, where it contributes crema stability and body.

Arabica is grown in smaller quantities, mainly in the Son La and Dien Bien provinces in the north as well as parts of Lam Dong, generally at higher elevations. These lots can offer softer acidity and notes of red fruit or mild florals, though quality varies considerably. Washed and honey processing are found among speciality-focused producers, while wet-hulled processing is also present. Vietnamese Arabica remains an origin of growing interest to speciality buyers.
