35 speciality roasts from 19 London roasters use Rwanda beans.
Rwandan speciality coffee typically presents a clean, bright cup with a pronounced acidity that tends toward red fruit and citrus notes -- juicy raspberry, blackcurrant and orange are common descriptors. The body is usually medium to full, and well-processed lots often carry a floral quality alongside a gentle sweetness in the finish. The profile is generally considered approachable, and Rwandan coffees appear with some regularity in espresso blends where their fruit-forward character and acidity provide lift alongside heavier, earthier origins.
The principal growing regions include Huye District in the south, Nyamasheke and Karongi in the west, and Musanze in the north, with most farms sitting between 1,500 and 2,000 metres above sea level. The dominant varietal is Bourbon, which suits the high-altitude volcanic soils well. Fully washed processing is by far the most common method and accounts for much of Rwanda's clean, fruit-driven reputation; naturals and honeys are produced but remain comparatively uncommon.
